Environment
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reducing our waste means thinking about and changing our consumption and disposal behaviour. Tooradin Primary School thinks highly about  resource management and conservation, saving energy and water, reducing pollution and waste. In the classroom we recycle  paper, food scraps and plastic. Everyday monitors collect paper and plastic and sort into bins and feed the chickens all our food scraps. Each grade appoints energy monitors to ensure that lights, computers and other electrical devices are switched off when not in use.

Nude Food is where students bring minimal or no wrappers in their lunch boxes. This eliminates a lot of waste throughout each classroom. Students have come up with new ideas on how to bring food to school without using wrappers. Some ideas were sandwich boxes, reusable bags and emptying chips and biscuits into their lunch boxes. We found that students ate healthier lunches because it was easier to bring fresh fruits and vegetables than sweet and savoury packed items.

Throughout the year, students participate in Environmental events such as;
* Nude Food Lunches
* Environment Club
* Earth Hour
* National Tree Planting Day
* Clean up Australia Day
* Keep Australia Beautiful Week
* Environment Week
* National Water Week
* Recycling Week

Our Garden

Our students, teachers and dedicated volunteers work hard to keep our garden producing delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Environment Club runs twice a week during lunchtime and students can help maintain the garden beds, plant seeds and also harvest produce.
